What to do in Tasmania

Close to nature

Tasmania is a treasure trove for nature lovers. It’s packed full of natural wonders and stunning landscapes, unique animals and plants, as well as a rich diversity of sea life.

Being a small island, it’s easy to access the many different environments – from alpine ranges, wetlands and grasslands to coastal heaths and vast temperate rainforests.

The island’s landscape was shaped by previous ice ages and many of the plants and wildlife found here are unique to Tasmania. The wide and varied range of plant species include a huge range of eucalypts, ancient conifers such as the Huon pine, and Australia’s only native deciduous plant, the Deciduous beech (Fagus).

There could even be a new species somewhere out there just waiting to be discovered.
