With Daniela’s move from Sydney to Launceston comes a welcoming community, business opportunities and living life in the right pace
When Daniela Cavalletti moved from Sydney to Launceston, it wasn’t easy leaving behind her decade-strong business ties. Little did she know that one of the biggest standalone projects of her career would land in her lap within a month of arriving, courtesy of a Launceston local.
Daniela is the founder of Cavalletti Communications (or CavaCom for short), where she leads an international team of content creators. The accomplished copywriter, editor and ghostwriter grew up in northern Germany before living in England and travelling the world.
She settled in Sydney in 2002, where she met her husband, business and life-coach Roland Hanekroot of New Perspectives. He also hails from Europe (adding Dutch to the German-Italian mix of Daniela’s heritage) and the two enjoyed building their businesses in a fast-paced city. However it would be a 40 per cent rent hike coupled with sweltering summers hitting 49 degrees Celsius that led to discussions around a life change.
Orange, Newcastle, and Hobart were under consideration, but Launceston won their hearts. In May 2018, the northern Tasmanian city became home.
“After two exploratory trips to Tasmania, Launceston felt right,” says Daniela. “We had been worried about being apart from family, friends, and business ties. Turns out, it’s not a problem at all. In fact we have mainland visitors all the time and now enjoy a much more relaxed time with them. Operating remotely wasn’t an issue for us as long as there was fast broadband and an accessible airport. No problem in Launceston!”
Daniela is fortunate to be able to work from anywhere. The Cavalletti Communications team of 13 ranges from Tasmanian copywriters to international editors, who create compelling marketing and business content for any industry, topic or occasion. Clients can request anything from websites, blogs, brochures and annual reports, through to tenders and awards applications, and even a ghost-written business book.
Daniela has been touched by the welcoming nature of Launceston’s business community and has now plugged into a thriving business scene here.
“We were looking for a tightly-knit and supportive business community like the one we were part of in Sydney, and we’ve found it. The Chamber of Commerce, Business Networking Advantage Australia (BNAA), and other local organisations have all been very helpful”.
“I have found that people are welcoming, supportive and happy to share their contacts with new arrivals. One such conversation led to one of CavaCom’s biggest projects yet.”
In August 2019, Cavalletti Communications was selected as a Finalist in the Professional Services category of the Launceston Chamber of Commerce 2019 Tasplan Business Excellence Awards. Certainly one of the achievements to be proud of since arriving in the region one year ago.
“I love developing our new friendships and am grateful for them,” adds Daniela. “To me, community is so important.”
It is no surprise that since landing in Launceston, Daniela and her husband Roland are now giving back to their new home town in various ways, from assisting new migrants to working with the City Mission. Likewise their invitation to their new neighbours for ‘Kaffee + Kuchen’ (coffee and German apple tart) was equally warmly received. These days the tight-knit community water each other’s gardens, share the occasional wine, and the local angler sometimes arrive with fresh fish for Daniela and Roland.
With shorter commutes these days, Daniela has more hours in her days and is enjoying Tasmania’s four distinct seasons, and with nature on her doorstep, it’s just as likely you’ll bump into Daniela walking along a trail in the Cataract Gorge, as you will meeting a client over coffee.
So is she here to stay?
“Absolutely. Launceston is our home now,” smiles Daniela.
